Terms of use

What this site is
ClearPath Home Safety provides free information about home safety modifications for older adults, a self-assessment tool, and an optional service that passes your contact details to a home improvement referral network so that contractors can get in touch.
By using the site you agree to these terms. If you don’t agree with them, please don’t use it.
We are not a contractor
We don’t perform home modification work, employ contractors, or supervise anyone who does. When you ask for quotes, we pass your details to a referral network, which matches you with independent businesses.
We don’t vet, endorse, license-check, or guarantee any contractor you hear from, and we’re not party to any agreement you make with one. Check licensing, insurance, and references yourself, and get a written quote before agreeing to work. Any dispute about the work is between you and the contractor.
The safety check is not a professional assessment
Our safety check is an educational tool. It reflects what you tell us about the home and applies general fall-risk guidance to it. It is not a professional home inspection, an occupational therapy evaluation, or a medical assessment.
It cannot assess medical contributors to fall risk — medication side effects, blood pressure, vision, cognition, balance, and neuropathy among them. Those are often more significant than anything about the house. Please discuss fall risk with a doctor as well as changing the home.
A low risk result does not mean nobody will fall. Falls happen in well-adapted homes.
Cost estimates are estimates
Cost figures on this site are planning ranges built from published national averages adjusted by a regional multiplier for your ZIP code. They are not quotes, not offers, and not a promise of any price.
Real prices depend on your home’s layout, wall construction, whether a wall is load-bearing, local permit requirements, material choices, and who you hire. Actual quotes will fall outside our ranges sometimes. Always get a written quote.
Funding information
Our funding guide describes government and insurance programs as we understood them on the date shown on that page, with sources cited. Eligibility rules, dollar amounts, and program availability change, and many are set at state or county level.
Confirm everything with the program itself before making decisions. Nothing on this site is legal, financial, tax, or benefits advice, and we’re not responsible for decisions made on the basis of it.
Your responsibilities
- Give accurate information, and only submit contact details you're entitled to submit — don't enter someone else's phone number without their permission.
- Use the site for its intended purpose, not to scrape it, overload it, or interfere with it.
- You must be 18 or older to submit the contact form.
How we're paid
When you ask to be connected with a contractor, the referral network pays us a fee for the introduction. This doesn’t change what you pay, and our recommendations don’t change based on it — the safety check produces the same output whether or not you use the contact form.
Our content
The text, tools, and design on this site belong to us. You’re welcome to print your own results and use them however you like, including handing them to contractors. Please don’t republish our written content as your own.
Disclaimer and limitation of liability
The site is provided “as is” without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including any implied warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, or accuracy. We don’t warrant that the site will be uninterrupted or error-free.
To the fullest extent permitted by law, we are not liable for indirect, incidental, consequential, or punitive damages arising from your use of the site, from any contractor you’re connected with, or from reliance on any information here. Some jurisdictions don’t allow certain exclusions, so parts of this may not apply to you.
Changes
We may update these terms. The date at the top shows when they last changed, and continuing to use the site after a change means you accept the updated version.
